Arturs Irbe was a Latvian hockey goalie that was drafted to play for the Minnesota North Stars in 1989. At that time, his country was under the communist regime and Irbe was not allowed to leave Latvia and play in the NHL. After the iron curtain fell, however, Irbe moved to the United States and proved to be an almost unpassable wall himself.
